Among its many nicknames, Nashville is often referred to as the “Hot Chicken Capital” because of the city’s specialty cuisine of “hot chicken.” Hot chicken is a spicy version of the traditional southern fried chicken that has grown popular among Nashville’s restaurants and eateries.

Besides hot chicken, Nashville’s other specialties are hot fish, barbecue, and the concept known as “meat and three.” A meat and three is a restaurant in which the customer picks their choice of meat and three side dishes. Meat and three meals are traditionally served with sweet tea and cornbread, and is typically associated with soul food.

Nashville has been called one of the “snobbiest” food cities in the country by Travel + Leisure Magazine.
